BOAVISTA HOSTS LONGEST DAY FINALS
Golf Charity Events have always been an important part of the Boavista sporting calendar - and the Sir Henry Cooper and Mike Reid charity classic was one of the highlights every May. Over the 10 years that this event ran, considerable monies have been raised for those charities close to Sir Henry's heart. With Mike's death and the decision by the Organisers to put the event on hold this year, Boavista is continuing to do its bit for charity by hosting Macmillan Cancer Support's Longest Day Finals. Organised by Macmillan Cancer Support, the "Longest Day Golf Challenge" sees teams of four set out to prove they can play 4 rounds of golf in one day - and raise sponsorship money for the charity in the progress. Last year, golfers raised a massive £330,000 and the signs are that this year will be even better as 155 teams have signed up so far. It's up to each team to choose when and where they play their challenging four rounds. Boavista Club Captain, Eric Innes, put a team together which played their rounds at Boavista on Sunday 28th June. Each player played 72 holes, hit 300-odd shots and walked 20 miles - all within 24 hours. Well done team. The team score is calculated by adding up the best two Stableford points at every hole. Of all the teams that enter, the four teams with the best golf score, combined with the most money raised, will win an all-expenses-paid trip to play for the Challenge Trophy in the final at Boavista Golf & Country Club later in this year. "We are delighted to be able to lend our support to such a prestigious event", says Boavista's Managing Director, Phillip Pope. "It will be a pleasure to welcome the winners to Boavista where I am sure they will enjoy our facilities and spend a memorable weekend". If you would like to help Captain Eric Innes and his team raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, please contact Boavista Golf Director, Antonio Castelo, on 282 000 111 or email antonio.castelo@boavistagolf.com. You may even wish to put a team together yourself and take the challenge to raise money for cancer support.
